Serah’s Story – All in Glasgow, Disability & Health, Specialist Employability Support

Serah was referred to All in Glasgow – Disability & Health to access support to move into employment. As a parent with a child under one year old, and living with ADHD and dyslexia, Serah faced multiple barriers to secure employment and needed tailored support to navigate her journey.

Serah was not entitled to benefits but was highly motivated to achieve financial stability for both her and her son. Serah had recently completed a master’s degree in human resources at the University of the West of Scotland but was struggling to secure stable employment and navigate the job application process on her own. Her previous work experience had been in Nigeria and primarily in customer service roles, and she lacked confidence in applying for jobs and preparing for interviews.

Through All in Glasgow, Serah was matched with her Employment Coordinator, who provided personalised guidance and support. Focusing on increasing her skills and confidence, Serah was supported to gain a qualification and update her transferable skills on her CV, strengthening her employability profile.

With the support of her Employment Coordinator, Serah was encouraged to apply for a range of suitable roles and practise her interview techniques. As her confidence continued to grow, Serah began attending interviews where she was supported to request questions in advance where possible as well as preparing written notes to support her on the day. Her Employment Coordinator also attended interviews alongside Serah to provide reassurance and post interview feedback.

Through the specialist support provided by All in Glasgow, Serah was successfully offered two job opportunities and ultimately chose the option that offered the flexibility and working hours that suited her childcare responsibilities.

I also want to thank you again for holding my hand throughout this journey. Your patience and encouragement have meant more to me than I can fully express. Revisiting my journey brought everything back so vividly, and I want you to know that I have not taken any of it for granted.

Securing flexible employment has been transformational for Serah and her baby. It has provided financial stability, reduced stress and uncertainty, and allowed her to balance work with childcare commitments. Serah’s journey reflects the impact of personalised and inclusive employability support, enabling her to overcome complex barriers, rebuild her confidence, and provide support for her family.
